ACA Marketplace Health Insurance

The Affordable Care Act Marketplace is where people who do not have job-based, Medicare or Medicaid coverage can shop for individual and family health insurance. We help you understand the choices and the rules, so the decision is yours and it is an informed one.

How it works

• Plans are grouped into levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum). Lower monthly premiums usually mean you pay more when you use care, and the reverse.
• Every Marketplace plan covers the essential health benefits, and no plan can turn you away or charge you more for a health condition you already have.
• Premium tax credits can lower your monthly cost. Whether you qualify depends on your household income and size, and the rules change over time, so we review the current rules with you.

When you can enroll

• Open Enrollment happens once a year, in the fall and early winter. Exact dates depend on the marketplace, and we confirm them with you.
• Special Enrollment Periods open after certain life events, such as losing other coverage, moving, marriage or the birth or adoption of a child.
